A-Z Blog Challenge Wrap Up!!!

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to drop a quick blog and wrap up this year’s A-Z Blog Challenge.

I’ll start by thanking everyone who read along, commented, and submitted emails and texts in support of one of my blogs.

I know musical blogs are not for everyone, but overall, the series got some great reception, and I was glad to see so many find “something” that they could connect to; be it an old song they haven’t heard in a long time, or a new song they just heard and would like to hear again.

I especially LOVED the comments when people told me their personal connections to the songs……….and there were some great ones that made me smile so much!

When I got the initial idea for this series, I thought it would be the fastest and easiest blogs I ever cranked out. In reality, it was the most time and labor intensive blogs I ever wrote as a whole. From the minute I told myself I just finished writing the entire series, I continued to re-read, added, deleted, and edited for spelling and grammar through the whole month. I hope it was OK?

In the early days of the blog challenge, as Harry Chapin would say; “I would go back and sit in my lonely writer’s chair,” and just blast out as much nonsense off the top of my head as my fingers could type. Harry talked about the chair…..me? The nonsense. This year, not only did I have to write more to help explain my rapid stream of consciousness, but I spent an incredible amount of time fact checking the entire stories to the best of my ability. I figured if people would spend their time “with me,” the least I could do is offer up as much truth as I could.

As noted, on many occasions, I would “fall down the rabbit hole,” and wind up reading and learning so much myself. Speaking of stream of consciousness, any reference to a “rabbit hole” is from the Lewis Carroll novel; “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” I point this out, not to be a book snob, but to admit; I have never read that book, and yet I think many of us still get the references. I still want to read the book one day; someday.

My favorite part of writing the blog series was when some reference to the blog, or song of the day would pop up “somewhere” in my own life……….like……….

One day I found myself literally “sitting around in the Firestone Parking Lot!” It was for car maintenance, and nowhere as cool as if I was 16, and hanging out with Rachel Sweet!

What about the day I found an old sticker that I bought browsing through a shop on the East Side. It reminded me of the John Prine song; “Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore.”

I think some people were more disappointed that I didn’t actually have an Amy Winehouse video. I did come across this one. She is not by herself, but among “musical royalty,”….well in my mind, and we ALL know how that goes. This clip includes the classic Bob Dylan song “The Mighty Quinn.” It was redone by Manfred Mann who had quite the hit. In this great version, we have Amy Winehouse, Paul Weller from “The Jam” (no time to get into how incredible they were), and the great Sam Moore of the legendary group  “Sam and Dave.”

“Some of you” even missed Beyoncé as Etta James, in Cadillac Records at the end of the blog because you were so incensed that I had the audacity to mention “Glee.”

Glee, Glee,Glee,Glee………..”Don’t say Glee!”  Ron DeSantis …….Hahahahahahaha!!!

Let’s leave with a song that didn’t make it into the series but I have discovered recently. Of course, the opening lyrics are just so clever……Enjoy, and again, thanks so much for all the support!

I am the weathervane

I never said anything strange

But those in the storms who’ve lost their way

Seem to give me all their blame
